Galley project
Wanted to share my galley portable project with you guys and gals. Since finishing "Final One II" we have been cruising her with our trailer club, but as you know the boat suffers in the criusing dept. I found inspiration for this galley kit from a somewhat recent article on Small Boat Journal on a ...

Trailer rebuild
I carved out two weekends (and a few nights in between) to refurbish the trailer under our SJ Mark II “Final One II". When my buddy and I brought the boat back from just outside Atlanta, we were on a whirlwind trip to make it up there, size up and buy the boat(me), and get back home the same day. Wh...

Re: Found Lazarette friendly gas tank
Thanks for sharing on this! I found it advertised cheaper on line, but not available. I found one locally, and it barely fit but only after removing the threaded hose/coupling fitting. Once in there it will have to stay in, unless I shave the opening some, and make a notch to clear that fitting. Jim...

Mast Straightening
My SJ's previous owner said he sailed the boat one time. He must have dropped the mast on his one outing or he bought it that way. The mast was not kinked, however bent for and aft and athwartship about 4' from the base and too bad to use as it was. I used a steel 2x2x1/4" tube as a jig, and some ba...

Re: Bottom Paint removal
I didnt get any response from my cruising club's forum about using the strippers, I should have asked here. At almost $70/gal. how much stripper did it take?

Bottom Paint removal
My new to me SJ21 had several years of bottom paint which had to come off. The boat will only occasionally be in the water for 2-4 days, so I planned on hard painting the bottom with two part urethane if I was not able to save the gelcoat. This is the about the fourth boat I have removed bottom pain...

Re: Keel cable
Christian, thanks for your help. I think I found part of the problem on the broken cable, it was only 1/8" and I think I read a previous post that the cable should be 3/16. So, in the two keel down positions does the locking pin engage an actual hole in the keel, or does it just nest in a recess in ...

Hi everyone!
Jim Davis in Orlando here, finally stopped lurking on here, and now registered. My wife Margaret and I joined the SJ21CA a few months ago, and are about 2-months into the rebuild of our '80 MII we picked up this summer in GA. While not new to sailing, we are new to the SJ and to drop keels. Other th...
