Re: deck re-core
Sculpin, I have watched your video so often that my wife recognizes the music! Very inspiring. I'm still working on other projects (and playing with other hobbies), but hope to bring the boat in to flip it in the next couple of months. By the way, I'm the guy who left the comment on your video eight...

Re: deck re-core
Thanks all for the advice and encouragement! I am planning to turn the boat over. I did have a passing thought of leaving the keel in when I flipped it, but I have realized that would not be a good idea. Given the rough shape of the rest of the boat, it's probably a good idea to give the keel and tr...

Re: deck re-core
I seem to have an issue with getting more than one pic to attach. Here's another shot of the rotting deck structure.

deck re-core
So with the transom mostly rebuilt, I'm looking ahead to re-coring the deck. The previous owner had reinforced the deck with plywood and some 1X2 and 1X6 cross pieces, all of which was pretty rotten and falling in (see pics). The old core and inner skin had been removed at some point, and that all t...

Re: Transom rebuild
Two layers of epoxy and 1708 glass is done. Starting to look like a real boat! A lot more sanding, fairing, etc. to do, but the basic structure of the transom is complete.

Re: Transom rebuild
After spending a few months on other things, I have been working on the transom rebuild recently. The first shot shows the top of the transom layed up with 6 layers of 6mm plywood and the section that had been removed by the previous owner backed up with 6mm ply. The second shot shows one more layer...

Re: cockpit drain or drains
Thanks! Running the cockpit drain to the keel trunk makes sense since the drain is at the forward end of the cockpit (and explains why so many pictures show no through hulls). Should be relatively straightforward to re-implement that on my boat. I guess that the placement of the cockpit drain forwar...

Re: cockpit drain or drains
Thanks, Bill. I've been looking through SJ 21 pictures, and I notice that some have no through hulls at all. I'm wondering where the rain goes when the boat's moored or sitting on a trailer, not to mention water washing in over a gunnel when sailing. Since I'm rebuilding the transom, I think directi...

cockpit drain or drains
Hi all, another question for the group. My cockpit drain is a single hole in the sole near the companionway draining into the bilge. Like the horizontal transom top, I have to believe this is a non-standard modification. What is the standard setup for cockpit drains? How many and where, and where sh...
