Re: Day Sail Misadventure
Thanks for that pic as well. I need to piece together all the deck photos of your boat for patent infringement... errr, I mean inspiration. That's a really clean way to put it all together.

Re: Day Sail Misadventure
Thanks for the info kuriti. You happen to have a close up pic of the organizer?
Pretty sure that what I want to do. It'll allow the lines to be organized in the cabin instead of cluttering up the cockpit.

Re: Day Sail Misadventure
Yeah Condre... I try to make it down to Gulf Port whenever I have a little change in my pocket. That's not as often since getting the boat as you can imagine. Wouldn't mind picking your brain about how you're set up to single hand too. Even when I have the family with me I'm doing it alone for the m...

Re: Boom Tie Down
I have a cleat mounted to the mast under the boom where a short length of 3/16th line attached to the goose neck is secured. No block or other mechanical advantage. I just set it and pull the halyard as tight as I can. There is also a cunningham that I rig just because its there but I'm not sophisti...

Re: Minnesota San Juan
Congratulations! That's a great looking boat.
I'm a neophyte sailor as well but my latest excursion didn't go nearly as well as yours.
Good job and welcome.

Re: Day Sail Misadventure
I hear you Condre but if I'd used good judgement and stayed home I wouldn't have learned as much as I did. And I certainly wouldn't have had as much fun! I don't believe it would've been too much to handle if I had the ability to reduce sail and could've worked everything from the cockpit. I'll be s...

Re: Day Sail Misadventure
Thanks for the encouraging words Kuriti. I'm not down about it as my friend and I both had a lot of fun. I learned a lot in a fairly compressed time frame and there's the added benefit of us having a lot of ammunition to rag one another about. The jib downhaul would be great. I had ambitions of rigg...

Day Sail Misadventure
This is a mostly accurate recounting of the events of 29 January 2017 at Lake Logan Martin in central Alabama. There may be some embellishment and minimization of stupidity on my part but it’s basically how I remember it. I didn’t think this belonged in the cruising section because it was just a day...

Re: Keel winch relocation?
My deck doesn’t feel soft but I haven’t pulled any hardware to be sure. After seeing all the re-core jobs I’ve just been too afraid to look. I’m assured by the previous owner that it was garage kept and only sailed to church on Sundays by a little old lady so it ought to be fine. I can’t tell from y...

Re: Keel winch relocation?
That’s what I was afraid of. I was hoping to at least rebate the starboard bulkhead as much as possible but didn’t want to weaken to deck with only the skinny compression post. All the photos I’ve seen of the posts with winches mounted were more substantial. I don’t trust my engineering abilities to...
