Re: swing keel replacement
Good luck. You have some major work ahead. So I gave my friend a MKII when I was restoring my MKIII. I pulled a lot of parts off of it but it still has the original swing keel under it. The only thing about it is it is now a big flag pole in his yard. He’s retired from the Coast Guard. We’re in Tenn...

Re: New owner 1979 SJ21
Hey congratulations on the new boat! Yeah it’s been real quiet around here lately like Kuriti said. I stop in every now and then from time to time. Once you get it up and running it is a great sailing little boat! It took me about a year to restore my old San Juan 21. Good luck with it and yeah ther...

Re: deck re-core
Wow, yeah you definitely have some work to do. I can’t believe someone tried to support the deck that way. Man good luck. I use Faststone resizer to get my pics to size.

Hull #1673 sailing the green seas
Hull 1673 resized.jpg Hello all! So this is hull #1673. She is sailing the green seas down in the valley. I had two SJs and I restored one out of two. This one had a rotten deck and someone had grounded her pretty bad at one time so she would have been more of a restoration than I wanted to deal wi...

Yeah it’s definitely not OEM. Both of my SJs had the 1x19 wires. Good luck!

Re: Bungee Cords on Tilt Up Rudder
That’s basically how I did my rudder. I drilled a hole in the trailing edge like you did and I drilled and filled it with epoxy so I could pull it up when I want to beach it. It helped. The rudder for me has been the hardest thing to operate on this boat while you are either under sail or motoring i...

Re: Adding stanchions?
Here in Tennessee I sail mostly with a genoa unless the winds get up over approximately eight knots. I have a 130 and a 150 because a lot of times in the summer it won’t get past three knots here on our lake and I need to catch as much wind as I can. I will say that it does not point as well because...

Re: Chain Plates
I did mine exactly like Kuriti did And I have had no leaking through the deck where the chain plates go through, that is definitely the way to go. I ended up taking the wooden bulk heads out and I found some quarter inch steel that I made into these bulk heads (see attachment below). I cut them and ...
