Re: cockpit drain or drains
Be careful about this, our boats do not have any positive buoyancy and will sink if taken on water inside the boat. I have a Mark III, and the cockpit drains into the keel trunk, but there is no other drain in the boat. Sometimes the keel trunk splashes water in (I should really reseal the cover to ...

Re: Getting her ready for the water
Hey Jeff, Sorry for the late reply! I'm in the Philly area and wouldn't mind bringing my San Juan down for a race :D Hope you got the rigging worked out! If not, we can get together in the spring and walk through it all. I spent a day setting mine up with just a pal trying to figure it all out, and ...

Re: Bow eye above or below roller on trailer?
Great job! I need some side bunks. Hardest part at the dock is keeping it aligned as I pull up the trailer, especially in a cross wind. I was going to do it originally, but ran out of money and then just forgot about it. Might need to start looking around for some. Thanks :) I've acquired all my pa...

Re: Bow eye above or below roller on trailer?
So, I had a change to fix this situation this weekend. I replaced all the rollers and both bunks on the trailer. I also moved up the bow winch mount up 1 foot, and the boat is sitting perfectly on the trailer now. No more tongue weight issues. I also added the side bunks to help centering. We got it...

Re: Chain Plates
This looks like a Mark I expert question... On the Mark II and III, the chain plates are mounted to bulkheads. See my post here of what a refurb on them can look like: http://sj21class.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=10359&p=14111#p14107 On that note, I think the metal should be fine if they're hold...

Re: Adding stanchions?
The genoa is almost entirely a thing of the past on Sj 21's. The past few years the "All-Sails" fleets have been racing jibs and spinnakers, no genoas allowed. Our Calgary fleet - which gets up to 18 boats on a Wednesday night starting line, still allows genoas, but hardly anyone uses them anymore ...

Re: Adding stanchions?
I agree with your priorities as stipulated. The factor I'm considering is the Genoa... I need someone foreward to prevent it from snagging on the main mast each time I turn through the wind. Even so, the safety lines may get in the way of its operation.

Adding stanchions?
Hey Guys, I was curious if anyone has had any thoughts to adding stanchions and some lifelines to the San Juan's? I was shopping around, comparing as usual and noticed this Catalina 22' has some stanchions that I could probably install myself. I don't think it's necessary, but an "upgrade"? https://...
