Re: Fleet Captain Trailer
Hi Mike, I replaced springs some time ago and recall some concern with over-rated springs. If the springs are too stiff, they will not flex, but instead, transmit the bumps to the boat. Based on what was available that fit the trailer, I spoke with the spring experts and ended up with a stock spring...

Re: Thru-deck repair at bow pulpit mounts
Good stuff!
Aluminum is easy enough to work with, so I'll check that box.
Cold shuts, also.
Sucking vs draining -- next time for sure! LOL...
THANK YOU!!!

Re: Thru-deck repair at bow pulpit mounts
Stephen, Your quick fix is appealing except that it's temporary. Fibergalss materials are on hand, whereas making bushings is not my forte. Thus, I'm inclined to fill with fiberglass resin. Backplates are a good idea, but may go with large heavy washers for expedience and fab backplates at a later t...

Thru-deck repair at bow pulpit mounts
Hi all, The photo is the overhead, starboard side toward the bow, where I've removed the 3 bolts for that pulpit mount on my MK-II. The reason for removing the pulpit was suspected water infiltration at the mounting bolts which was confirmed -- brown wet mush. The first sign of trouble was one of th...

Re: Bow eye above or below roller on trailer?
Stephen, For my Fleet trailer, the following apply: 1. There are 4 keel rollers. One at each cross beam on the trailer. The rear most roller under the stern is not in contact with the hull. This is intentional because the hull is thin with no structural member in that area. There is a roller at eith...

Bow eye above or below roller on trailer?
I would appreciate critiques/suggestion regarding a reconfiguration of how the Fleet trailer secures the bow of the boat. Currently, when my SJ21 is on the trailer, the bow eye (on the boat hull) rests on top of the bow roller (on the trailer). From photos on the internet this seems typical (is it?)...

Re: Electrical System write up
An SJ21 will sink if swamped or left moored with a leak. I've read the accounts of these events and the subsequent salvage via tire tubes and a compressor. I think positive flotation was the main reason my parents' first boat back in the 70's was a Catalina 22. Their club also had an SJ21 fleet whic...
