Re: Jib Causing Over-steer - HELP!
I'm interested in learning more about wiring... My boat was not built with the Clark electrical panel, and has no battery. The main thing that has me stumped is a conduit or raceway to place the wires in that protects the wire, yet is small and inconspicuous. What did the factory use? Other, better ...

Re: Jib Causing Over-steer - HELP!
Some things I've learned through trial and (much) error: 1. Make sure the boat is moving. Don't try to tack without boat speed, particularly if there's a fair amount of wind. 2. Move the tiller smoothly so that the end of the tiller is about centered over the seating area on the lee side of the cock...

Re: WTB: Used Main (for cruising/daysailing)
cklamp: my boat is from New Bern... Could New Bern have used non-Clark sails, since Clark's loft was in the PNW? Boston Sails' loft was in Michigan, 1/2 the distance.

Re: Mast Gate
Sorry for the delay in replying, had family over for weekend... To bend this, I started with a strip of metal 4" wide by 14" long. (My mast boltrope opening is 4" long.) The mast is a "Kenyon Marine al spar", the profile is "D". In cross section, this is an ellipse 2-1/4 x 3-3/4. I made a paper patt...

Re: WTB: Used Main (for cruising/daysailing)
kuriti, my sails were made by Boston (now Doyle), and the main has the logo and hull number on it, so I think they were made for the boat originally. Just really stretched out! Since I've received no response to my query about used sails, I'm going to try to get a few more years out of my old one. O...

WTB: Used Main (for cruising/daysailing)
Believe it or not, when I bought my old MkI (hull #162) last fall, it came with the original sails from 1972! They have no rips, but the main is blown out, I think. I'm able to pull the main halyard tight, but the head is clear up against the sheave, and the boom downhauls so far that the gooseneck ...

Mast Gate
My mainsail has slugs on the luff. I want to be able to lower the main so that all of the slugs are stacked up tight against the top of the boom. To do this, the slugs must go below the cutout in the mast track. I made a gate from 0.100 aluminum and found a knob with a threaded rod attached at the h...

Re: Boom Downhaul
Just to close out this thread, I bought a cleat from sjsailboats.com that mounts in the groove of the mast, and it works great! Thanks to everyone for their advice.

Re: Boom Downhaul
I've ordered a cleat from Stephen at sjsailboats.com, and while puzzling over this little rigging problem, another question popped into my mind. Why do we need a 3/8" double braid dacron line for the main halyard, and then oppose that force pulling up with a little 3/16" single braid downhaul? If 3/...

Re: Boom Downhaul
Aha!! So I am missing a piece of hardware... I'll see about getting one. Fits in sail track like a sail stop?
Thx, George
