Re: Sailing Anyone---
Yeah, my girl is overweight by 150lbs. Ya Van der Schallie, I'm workin' on the rudder. I hope to get a new woodie built this winter. That kick-up of mine is also going to get a workover. I plan on cutting a bunch of aluminum off the head. Ya'll are always welcome up here on Kootenay Lake. I plan on...

WTB: Used spinnaker
Got a kite that's too old, too slow, or too ugly for racing? We need an occasional chute for cruising. Crosscut or repairs are okay. Class legality not required.

Re: Boat bottem leaks
Where is the leak? Unless you have a puncture wound, the SJ21's only common point of hull leaks is the glassed-over wooden strips to either side of the keel box. These can seep in a remarkable volume of water; adding more FG won't fix it. The leak comes from the keel gasket screws.

Re: Deck to hull joint questions
Yeah, the rivets aren't real great & can pull out in places. There seems to be a poor fit between the deck and hull at the aft corners on our '73 Mk1 -- a half-inch gap in the mouldings. And 'shoebox' construction is never the best method, a source of real trouble in many production boats of this er...

I have the original fiddle w/shackle from the boom-end sheeting arrangement. White acetal sheaves, no becket. Yours if you want it -- we've changed to mid-boom sheeting. Also, we have an old (as in 1973) Clark mainsail which we could ship you. It's kinda blown out on the leech and our reefing patch ...

Re: New (old) SJ21 Owner
Our home water is a little 1.5x3 mile thing called Lake Hattie, west of Laramie. Its closeness is about all it has to recommend it, besides free camping and lots of wind.;) A friend of mine here -- who keeps his Potter19 on Havasu for the winter -- is arranging a little Lake Hattie sail-in featuring...

Re: New (old) SJ21 Owner
Welcome to the class and to this forum. The SJ21 is a sweet boat to learn on. Tho it helps to remember it is an oversized dinghy & was designed primarily for the light summer winds of the PNW. It's a light-air killer, a really amazing boat in steady breezes under 12 kts. It will stand up to the sava...

Re: Shroud Tension
I hafta say, North Sails' advice to retain the genoa to 23 or more knots TWS is ... unexpected. Few SJ21 sailors use the genoa anyhow because the boat is so easily driven to hull speed under working sails, and because of its natural lee helm. I cannot IMAGINE going to weather in 23 knots wit...

Re: Rudder Rebuild, Spinnaker Thoughts
Black plastic MagLite clips fit our Forespar (1.5"?) spi pole perfectly & are very beefy. We have one up the mast & just swing the pole vertical on its ring & clip it securely. Would work on a boom, too. http://www.amazon.com/MAGLITE-ASXD026-Flashlight-Mounting-Bracket/dp/B00002N9ER Are you planning...
