Re: Jib sheet cleats
We have a set of Harken 150 cam cleats mounted on risers near the inboard aft corners of the companionway slides, in line from the winch lead aiming toward the opposite side seat/coaming. The jib trimmer can sit on the high side, take a turn or 2 on the leeward winch and pull the sheet through the c...

Re: Hull stress crack repair?
The corners of the box are stress concentrators. If you cut the lower corners out of the box, you can reinforce the cracks from the inside. Add some 6" deck plates near the corners in the bunk top for access, fill the cutaway with foam and reglass inside and out and you will regain the integrity wit...

Re: I don't do windows
Mike and Kevin - I would replace the bulkheads in some fashion in a Mk2 or 3 because of the deck design. The raised sheer doesn't have alot of diagonal rigidity - it's essentially a big box and can benefit from some triangulation inside. I would go with a "ring frame" concept for the bulkheads - ie....

Re: Rudder Rebuild, Spinnaker Thoughts
Here in Eastern NC, most boats use twings led from just forward of the shrouds to a cleat on the cabin top. We use small plastic Holt/Allen snatch blocks on the twings so you can take the one off the sheet in drifting conditions. Having twings allows you to move the lead forward when running in big ...

Bob - I'd like to see how the bridle with the "sliding splice" actually works. Probably won't change my boat, but I am a gear head that collects solutions...

Re: Handling Gusty Conditions
On Joyride in these conditions we usually have the backstay set for general wind strength with the traveller midships or slightly to weather to keep the boom on center and sufficient twist in the top. Big puff, traveller down, more backstay if necessary, blow the sheet next and be ready to blow the ...

Re: PHRF ratings for Working Sails San Juan 21
Here in Eastern NC we have also experimented with a 15 sec/mile differential between WS and AS. We've found that we have to have a fairly long downwind leg to make up the difference with a spinnaker. Bear in mind that unless you're using a genoa as well as a spinnaker, both classes have the same upw...
