Re: core
Now that you have holes, the balsa should dry. Now you need to seal the holes in the top. On Chamred Juan, I removed all the deck hardware, drilled 1/2" holes where all the through deck holes were, gouged out the balsa about 3/16" back from the hole, then filled with epoxy. Re-drilled the holes and ...

Re: Mainsail block on deck?
The primary use of the Cunningham is to move the draft point of the mainsail. When the wind picks up, the draft point moves aft. The pulling the Cunningham adjusts the draft back forward. It is the same as putting tension the halyard, but our sails are cut to span the entire length of the 23' of all...

Re: Mainsail block on deck?
A vang is used primarily when you are on a reach. With the stock main sheet system, as soon as you let out the sheet, the boom will rise up as well as move out. With the vang, you can control the amount of rise. If you have a traveler, you can move the boom in and out without the boom rising until y...

Re: Mainsail block on deck?
There are many different main sheet systems. The one you may be talking about is the Head Knocker. This is a block and cleat attached to the boom somewhere aft of the companion way hatch. In section 3.4, Paragraph 9 of the Class Handbook; Mainsheet: All parts of the mainsheet shall lead between the ...

Re: Keel Saver
Another item that happens to me a lot was starting to crank the winch before removing the lock bolt. This can also put lots of stress on the cable. To fix this I drilled a small hole through the bolt head, ran a thin cable through, then a line from that to the winch handle. Now I can't crank until I...

Re: Keel Saver
The marking of the keel cable may work but I question whether if the cable rides over each loop will it will change the effective length of the cable.

Re: My sail maker wants to know
The proposal before the Members is whether to allow Loose Footed Mains. Currently they are prohibited. If you don't race your boat in one design, none of this will matter to you. A little history first. During a National event many years ago, a boat had a loose foot main with a huge roach hanging do...

Re: Keel Saver
The fix is allready been found. The keel winch should be a crank up/crank down type. These winches will not allow a free fall. To lower the keel you have to crank the winch down. Let go of the handle and it just stops. As to the Sheeve comming off, that won't happen if you inspect it once a year. Th...

My sail maker wants to know
I am eagerly awaiting word on the loose footed mains vote. I have a mainsail on order and we are waiting for the decision.
Can anyjuan in the leadership group tell us when the decision will be announced?
