Re: New San Juan Mark III Caretaker #2555
yeah, fiberglassing soft spots on the hull that you can only reach from inside the bunks. Even if they are flexing, I would attempt a reinforcement before I would start cutting out sections of my hull. That would scare the crap out of me. That might mean a layer or two of mat that bridges across the...

Re: Boat Restoration Complete!!!!
Hey, I pressure washed and painted the interior. I also made cushions for the bunks. I wrote up my electrical rebuild. I still would like to do some more creature comforts, but prioritized a quick and much less detailed re-paint last fall. New sails as well, so she looks great right now. Spending th...

Re: New San Juan Mark III Caretaker #2555
I think you are fine to cut a section of that size. CKlamp is right about the trailer bunks. I had some crazing where mine sits on the bunks, but they haven't returned after I painted. If you have that big a hole, it would be good to fiberglass in some supports where there is oil canning while you a...

Re: New San Juan Mark III Caretaker #2555
I don’t have a definitive answer, but I think you could remove them if you think it is critical. However, I would discourage it without a lot of thought and experience with fiberglass. There is definitely a structural advantage to having them and I would do something to reinforce if you do cut out. ...

No difference that I can tell. Had those concerns before, but it performs the same. Note I used spacers where I cut out material to give the cheeks rigidity. I made that mod 4 years ago and it is still good.

Re: Just bought SJ21 Hull #843
Yeah, the rudder is a pain in the ass. Mine also requires you to lean over the transom and putting it up to be able to drive out of the water is a real pain. I have no help for that, but I do recommend you to cut out a big chunk of the teak block between the aluminum cheeks. I did that and cut out t...

Re: Genoa rigging and other sail advice (cross post)
Update:
Had reef put in but haven't installed the winches yet. this fall/winter has been so wet in NC that the lake I use has been above flood stage and the marina closed so I haven't even gotten to use my new sails. sucks for me.

Re: New owners hull #1629
Is that the transom? Looks like the wall that separates the lazarette from the cabin to me. If so, it isn’t really structural and only needs to be air tight if you carry gas in the lazarette.
