Re: new owner? banging arounf of keel in trunk in light chop
No latch to hold the cover in place. I flip it down on some self-adhesive foam material I put around the opening. There are supposed to be gaskets on the stop bolt (I think--mine was at some point crudely epoxied in place). One thing that seems to make a difference with water coming up the keel trun...

Re: new owner? banging arounf of keel in trunk in light chop
I think some keel clunking is normal. Your keel bolt might be worn but this is apparently a pretty big job to fix. I have a mk II, which doesn't have the aluminum supports so I can speak to movement in that. Get a new cable from sjsailboats.com and give it a try. I used the original Clark inspection...

Re: Craigslist in Michigan/Ohio. . .
Yeah, I actually like working on my old boat but I like being on the water better.
If one had space, maybe between two or three of these one good boat could be had. Start with the Lansing boat and take some of that. . . ballast off of it. . . .

Re: Rigging the Boom
Downhaul? My mast has a horn cleat down low. Not the best picture, but maybe this helps? (excuse the messy halyard cleats--my sons haven't quite consistently gotten the hang of that skill yet)

Re: Stern lights
Thanks for the ideas. I ended up getting a "Perko 0965 Stern Navigation Light", which is almost a duplicate of the original horizontal mount light (different mounting hole configuration, though). I also got a: "Perko Atwood Hella 31mm Festoon LED Replacement FS-31-04A-CW Beam Angle = Aft-Facing 135 ...

Re: Electrical questions
I second the 12V jumper pack. I keep mine in the starboard cabinet (when it's on the boat). I power LED nav lights, a small LED cabin light, depth finder, and compass light with mine, and it works for days at a time. I re-wired most runs (all the old wires buried in fiberglass seemed to have a break...

Stern lights
Anyone using LED stern lights? My boat has the original? horizontal mount stern light on the starboard coaming. This is a pretty good location for visibility, but selection of LED replacements (or replacement bulbs) seems to be limited. Vertical mount LED transom lights seem to be much more commonly...

Re: Anchor size
I think it depends on the situation/conditions, but I've had good luck with a combination of a 16 lb claw type + a 5 pound danforth type (either or both depending on what we're doing). We sail in sheltered areas around the Great Lakes; no current but some good storms sometimes.
