Yeah, it's Ipe. sometime i think it is called brazillian walnut. It is a ridiculously dense, strong and weather resistant wood that is more sustainable than teak. In fact, since i don't have enough that weight would be a problem, i will use it from now on in place of teak. much cheaper. Some people use it as flooring/decking, which it would excel at probably out lasting the house it was in. It was a suggestion from my buddy who seems to know everything there is to know about boats.

Really very, very beautiful job that reflects the effort you made. I wonder if the Association members would consider an award for most outstanding restoration/refit? Maybe a small plaquard for the ride and a gift certificate? This might generate some interest in our class and healthy competition amongst us, too. I'd kick in a few bucks for it.

BTW, how'd the window treatment hold up? Any leaks?

Windows are doing great even after a pretty serious beating in the pamlico sound. I have had some paint blistering which is really frustrating, but overall it still looks good. going out tomorrow!

Should you be so inclined, you could make and sell new grab rails, Aluminum Johnson bars, cabin doors and replicas of whatever else you've made for your boat that others may want for their San Juan 21's.

Thanks for the compliment, but I'll keep my day job. It's a labor of love and money would only dirty it up.

Hello Kuriti, I have ran across this post a few times and on various wifis and the photos do not show up. I hate to raise a dead post but I would really like to see the finished boat. I talked about doing my bulkheads and I saw one of the pics of your metal ones like a month ago and I have not been able to find it again, could you point me in the right direction? I have been all over these forums and the Fleet one forums for ideas. Thank you very much!

Yeah, I will work on it. The site I used wants to charge now. Need to convert to imgur. Check back in a day or two.
