East Commodore Message 5 May 2014

Another month has passed very quickly. Besides racing White Knuckles, I have been doing RC work. For a number of years now I have been a Mark Boat Officer at Charleston Race Week. Once again, this year I was setting the leeward gate for the 81 boat J-70 fleet. This video shows what happens to very good sailors when sailing in a 2 knot breeze against a 2 knot current.

The race was abandoned.
The following week I was, once again, the PRO for the annual Columbia Sailing Club J-24 Easter Regatta on Lake Murray, SC. 26 J-24’s completed 9 races in weather, at times, that was wet and windy.
That’s enough about me. Florida Fleet #29 Bill Holstein wants you to visit the fleet Face book page and see all the activity going on with the fleet.

I am waiting to see the final results of the ETYSA (to support youth sailing) held 26, 27 April at BBSC. However, the photos of the event are available at:

and you can see from the photos that it looks like the local Juaners dominated the results.
This is a good time to check your rudder pintles to see if any fatigue cracks are starting to develop. If seen, get new pintles or have a good welding shop fix it. Also, check to make sure your centerboard pulleys are working OK and add little marine grease. Also, replace any CB cable that is starting to show broken strands.
Once again, please forward to me about any news and upcoming regattas and I will attempt to publish.
In the meantime, Lake Murray Fleet #31 is in the middle of the LMYRA Spring Series.
Reminder that the Eastern Nats are at Lake Norman Labor Day weekend.
Cheers, (\ <----- SJ 21 "White Knuckles" (\_ (\_ (\_
