Really, make a difference in my speed? Apparently not (-: Actually I'm sure it helps and it works very well. The old type really need replacing regularly and these don't which is a plus. I didn't add the extra weight on the hull side and that is something you might want to consider although I haven't really noticed any slapping around of the aluminum bar. You will have to lift your boat to fully swing the keel for the install. I'll be working on a lot of things to increase efficiency in my boat, crew position, rigging of backstay and getting rid of my traveller.
