Here it is already the 1st of July. As far as I can tell, the best event for celebrating the fourth is the:

Lake Norman Yacht Club “4th of July Regatta” 7/5-6, Racing, Games, LNYC chefs Slow Cooked BBQ, Fireworks, Band, and Dancing. Info at: http://www.lnyc.org/

The next big event is the Fishing Bay Yacht Club One Design Regatta that is being held on 9-10 August. This is the home port for our Class Measurer Mike Chesser. Once again this year Mike is looking forward to hosting a great showing of San Juans. Details at: http://fbyc.net/

Then two weeks later is the Blackbeard Sailing Club One Design Regatta scheduled for 23-24 August. Of course there will be a large contingent of Juans for that event. Details will be at: http://blackbeardsailingclub.com/index.php

And the following week is the 2014 Eastern Nationals which is being held at LNYC on 29-31 July. Details for registration will be available early next month at: http://www.lnyc.org/content.aspx?page_i ... _id=323601

As per class requirements there will be a national meeting during the event. I am requesting that Mike Robinson schedule the “short” meeting immediately following the skippers meeting.

The agenda for the meeting:

1. Receive preliminary bids for future national events. Lake Waccamaw’s Gaines “Pappy” Grantham has expressed interest for the E. Nat’l. to be held there in 2016. The following year will be for the Easterners to hold the 2017 North Americans. Fleets should organize and submit bids at this meeting.

2. There is no “old” business to discuss.

3. Any new business must be submitted to me by 31 July 2014 for vote by the members at the E. Natl’s. No new business will be recognized at the meeting. If new business is submitted please include a supporting discussion that I can include in next month’s message from the E. Commodore.

4. Nominate and vote on the next E. Commodore with term beginning January 2015.

5. Adjourn and let’s go sailing!!

In the fall is the great “Outback Regatta” at Columbia Sailing Club 20-21 Sept.

Western Carolina Sailing Club will be hosting “The Hospice Regatta” on 17-19 Oct.

And then, at CSC is the annual “Midlands Regatta” scheduled for 8-9 Nov. that wraps up the sailing season for most of us in the Lake Murray area.

I know there will be other regattas elsewhere, so please let me know and I will publish in next month’s blurb.

As far as I know, these Juans are still available for purchase…..

Ed Low of Emporia, VA is asking $1,200.00 for the boat, working sales, genoa jib, 4 hp. Evenrude motor and trailer. Contac Ed at elow@parkeroilcompany.com

Doc Palancia of Jacksonville, NC has a SJ 21 for sale. Contact Doc at: vpalancia@ec.rr.com

I am sorry to hear from Gaines “Pappy” Grantham, who sails on Lake Waccamaw, that due to carpet tunnel problems he can’t “pull the strings” any more on his SJ’s so he has put them up for sale. #700 (all sails) is $2000. # 2121, with motor, is $1500.Contact Pappy at: pappy700@nc.rr.com

For those who are interested, I am hosting an Advanced Race Management Seminar at CSC on 19-20 July. I encourage Juaners to become involved in doing RC work because one of things it does for you is that it makes you a “smarter” sailor while you support the sport of sailing.

An item to check on your Juan is to check your halyards for fraying, especially at the point where the line is at a block under load.

Check out the results and photos of the 2014 NA's held at Oak Harbor/Penn Cove, Washington this past month: http://sj21class.org/events.html Too bad some of us Easterners were not able to get there to give them some good competition.

A reminder that some of you have not renewed your membership for this year and also, if you intend to attend the E. Natl's, you must be a paid up member. Form at:

Plans are shaping up for the ENATS 2014. Fleet 38 and the Lake Norman Yacht Club extend a warm invitation to the Juan Community to come and enjoy one of the best sailing facilities in the East, some great food and social events, and of course, some fine racing. We have been working with the Race Committee and will have NOR and SI available shortly.

If you want to arrive early or stay over and simply cruise our beautiful lake (over 500 miles of shoreline to explore) just le us know and we can arrange for early/late club access.
