SO now I have my bracket. My Mk III has a built up plumb section on the port transom for mounting the bracket. My Mk II does not. Anyone built up the transom or know where a wedge can be purchased to make the transom flush?

If I understand what you're asking correctly... I just ordered some teak cut offs from ebay, epoxied\laminated them up until I had the thickness I wanted. Cut them into a wedge shape, drill holes, and voila.

I would think that white oak would suffice as well.

I got some HDPE (UV-resistant) plastic scraps from Alro and cut them into wedges to fit my mkII. These replaced some half-rotten wooden wedges that had probably been on the boat 20 years. Teak would last a long time (and be easier to cut than HDPE). I used butyl tape to seal them in place.

On a related note and while you are at it, make sure the transom is sound, you have good backing plates, and use nylock or other locking nuts. I epoxied a piece of 0.25" thick G10 sheet on the inside of the transom as backing.

transoms... yeah, transoms. I was watching a video last night about something else and they mentioned epoxy exposure and the potential resulting sensitivity. I flashed back to my transom rebuild.

Yes,, I have rebuilt the transom. The hardest bloody job to do on the boat with cutting tools a couple pf inches from my face and a respirator, barely able to fit in the hole. Yikes! I have built up a plywood wedge to fit the mount on. I am currently waiting for toe-rails and a bunch of hardware to show up and git er done.
