What's happened to the forum? Is everyone busy sailing? Is it still working.....

Been slow for some time. I still check weekly as part of my general work distraction, but thin posts. Went sailing Saturday and Sunday last week. Was hoping a few of the new posters restoring boats would livin things up, but not a lot from them lately either.

I've been busy with my family, only been able to take the boat out once or twice the past year:( Hoping I can change that this fall though!

Been busy still trying to get the hang of this sailing thing with on our SJ we purchased last fall here in Indiana. It seems the days we can get out and sail the winds are either 2 mph or 18 mph + !
I had installed the sail slides and jib down haul over the winter, both of which I am very happy with. I would still like to rig a topping lift. Badger, the system you have sounds like a good system that has worked well. What size line did you use for it? You mentioned in your post you just added a block on the top mast fitting? Being 6'4" is kind of a downside with the boom being low!!

I simply attached a shackle to the top of the mast and ran a 1/4" line down through a block at the end of the boom and then cleat it off on the boom. works great and is simple.

That's brilliant! I'll try that for next season. I had to put a reef in this year and it makes me nervous to hold the boom or use the clip on the backstay to support it. A proper topping lift would be way better.
