Favorite Brand for new sails

Post by Mojo899 » Fri May 24, 2019 4:56 am

Hello All,

I am wanting to collect some input on your favorite brand of sails for the Juan's.

Currently have Doyle I believe. And they are old but the jib shape is not good and need to replace that at a bare minimum.

I believe my parents had Ullman Sails for their Mk2.

I have a Mk1.

Thank you,
Andrew

Inner Banks sails out of Oriental did mine and they are great. They are branded Doyle, but cut by Mark Weinheimer. Oriental is a sailing town and the east coast SJs were made up the road in New Bern. I believe Mark won nationals in the SJ class in the past, so he knows these boats. If you are west coast there are probably makers who have done a lot of these as well, just not sure who. Someone here would know though.

Kuriti,

Yes, I am west-coast. I have heard about the Inner Banks sails a few times. Thank you for your input!

I just got a new main from National Sail Suppy out of Florida.

The sail was made overseas by Rolly Tasker. I can’t say how it performs yet since the sailing season is just starting here in Wisconsin. However, the sail seems well constructed, was economical, and came very quickly. Attached is a picture when I unrolled the sail for the first time.
