2012 St. Petersburg NOODS/SJ Mid-Winter Regatta

Post by Carlton & Aggie » Sat Nov 12, 2011 4:22 am

The response to the 2012 NOOD/ Mid-winter regatta scheduled for Feb.17-19 has been awesome !
At this time, 10 boats have said they plan to attend and 4 possibles.
Va., N.C., S.C., and Fl are represented to date.

Chris Popich from Seattle has challenged us to have 20 boats race.
If we want 2 divisions, "All sails" and "Working sails" we need 6 boats per division.

Everyone is encouraged to join us for a great sailing venue.

There is a great Downtown guide and map of St. Petersburg on http://www.discoverdowntown.com
It shows the central location of the yacht club which is downtown accross the street from Central Yach Basin where the boats are docked.
It also shows the easy walking distance to hotels, the Museum of fine Arts, The New Dali Museum, the pier, lots of shopping, Pioneer Park where there is a farmers market every Sat.,and a trolley to take you to all these places if you prefer not to walk.
If you are planning to make this a wonderful midwinter vacation, start with this guide.

Last year we were lucky enough to get some super rates, way below Regatta rates at the Hilton Bayside.
They usually come down in price the closer we get to Feb. We are working on this and will let you know soon as we get a favorable $. Last year we got it in Dec.
We are searching other hotels too.

Carlton and Aggie,

Sorry I will not be able to get Black Jack down for this event. Unfortunately for me it overlaps to much with the Miami International Boatshow which I must attend for work. I have always enjoyed sailing in St. Pete having done a lot of midwinter events there. It is a great venue.
We just had our Turkey Trot Regatta this past weekend and I think there is a growing interest to drag a few boats down from the members of Fleet 8.
Sending updates to keep the event in front of everyone so the interest continues to build.

Thanks for all your efforts.
Sincerely,
Dan Bornarth

Carlton, I had planned on sailing and even booked some rooms, however I now have a conflict. Will keep you posted and will keep the rooms to ensure our fleet all has rooms.
