Fred fell and broke his hip several months ago and succumbed to complications from the healing process.

Frederick George Rehm, Jr.
(April 15, 1918 - April 28, 2012)

A mass of Christian burial for Frederick George William Rehm, Jr., 94, of Camden, will be celebrated at 11:00AM, Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. A reception will follow in St. Mary’s Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Rehm’s memory to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1709 Lyttleton St., Camden, SC, 29020, or the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County, 810 Lyttleton St., Camden, SC 29020
Mr. Rehm, age 94, of Camden, died Saturday, April 28, 2012. He was the widower of Anne Marie Woods Rehm. Born in West Palm Beach, Fl, he was the son of the late Frederick George William Rehm and Rose Irene Delfoe Rehm. Following his graduation from the University of Florida with a degree in Chemical Engineering, he joined the Field Artillery at Ft Bragg as a 2nd Lt. but left after a few months when hired by DuPont to help in the manufacture of high explosives and smokeless powder during the buildup to WWII. Later in the war, he supervised a control lab for the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, TN. He spent the rest of his career with DuPont, mostly in Camden, working with textiles, where he retired.

Mr. Rehm was active and fully involved in everything he did. He was interested in music, art, dance and people. He was a sculptor; a member of Camden Players, The Fine Arts Center, Circle All Dance Group, the Camden-Lugoff Area Shag Society, and the Golden Club of Kershaw County. He learned carpentry in West Palm Beach working for his father’s construction company and later became a Journeyman Carpenter. Mr. Rehm built his own house and several boats. He participated in the expansion of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church building and in the reconstruction of the Douglass Reed House. He loved boating and was an avid sailor. He was one the of earliest members of The Wateree Sailing Club; a four time national champion of the San Juan 21 Class Boats and a long term editor of “Jibsheet”, the San Juan 21 Class Association publication.

Surviving are his daughter, Anne Delfoe Rehm Descy, her husband, Henry of Blythewood; a son, Frederick G.W. Rehm, III, and his wife, Ann of Honolulu, HI; 4 grandchildren and a brother, Gerald S. “Jerry” Rehm, of Clearwater, FL. In addition to his wife, his sister, Annette Dorothy Rehm Guenther, predeceased him.

Fred was a MAJOR reason I got in and stayed in the class. (you may say that is good or bad...)

Fred was a class guy. Tough on the race course - but willing to tell you every "secret" off it. I called him and left a message after his fall. I never heard back, so I figured it was not good.

The obit doesn't mention - a TIRELESS promoter of the class. Tough shoes to fill
