Eastern SJ 21 Juaners,
The start of the North Americans is now on 100 days away!
Before I continue let me encourage you to attend the Lake Norman Yacht Club Keelboat Mid Winters this weekend which will include the SJ 21 Mid Winter Championships. The forecast is for sunshine with temps in the low 70’s with winds from the S-SW at 5 – 10 for the weekend. For you late deciders, Mike Robinson has arranged with the Regatta Chairman Pete Marriott to waive the $15.00 late fee which makes the entry fee a mere $35.00 (dinner not included). However, you must do it by yesterday, but it is worth a try. Contact Pete to let him know you are coming at 704 562 6720 or marriottpete@gmail.com. David Mahrer #700 in “Water Raptor” and I (#1085) will be representing Fleet #31 at the event.
Plans are continuing to have the NOR with registration ready on the web sites around the first week or two of April. As for now, all skippers who register by the first of June will get a free T-shirt. This will give us time to have the shirts printed and ready for you at the regatta registration table. The registration form will have an addendum where additional shirts for crew, pit crew, etc. can be ordered.
The entry registration and fee by first of June will also include:
Thursday Welcome Party
Boat and Sail Measurement
Friday Evening Entertainment
Continental Breakfast Fri. & Sat. Morning
Saturday Awards Dinners for Skipper & one crew
As a reminder we have arranged a regatta special with the Hilton Garden Inn which is conveniently located 1.5 miles from the club: http://hiltongardeninn3.hilton.com/en/h ... index.html
The regatta rate is $89 plus $10.79 in taxes. The rate is available Wed. through Sat. night (2 Queens or King). Reservations must be made by 1 June. The best way to reserve a room is to call the hotel at 803 407 6640 and ask for the “San Juan Regatta” rate.
For others seeking other accommodations, please go to: http://www.lakemurraycountry.com/places ... drews-irmo
You will find over 20 motels listed that are within minutes of the sail club.
Also, if interested in renting a house then check out:
http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/us ... ake-murray
If you are interested in renting a house around the lake I would suggest using MapQuest to check on the length of the commute to the sail club. Homes on the south side of the lake, especially above the Batesburg-Leesville town, could result in a commute time of up to 30 minutes.
CSC has a camping area with limited RV hookups (RV reservation required) with a swim beach and showers.
The class By-Laws were updated last year and the requirements for charter were changed. It states in part, “At a minimum such contracts (charter) shall state the charterer is liable for any damage to the chartered boat while in their possession and the charterer shall show proof of insurance or post a cash deposit of at least $500.” We have some competitive boats available for charter and if you are interested please contact RLDommel@AOL.com who will line you up with an appropriate owner and you and the owner will sign a “Boat Charter Agreement (form is available).” As of now, the boats that are available are only configured for “Working Sails.”
Now is a good time to check for any hairline cracks in the pintle brackets. This is the most common failure seen.
Reminder that 2013 class dues must be paid before you can be scored at a National Event. Go to: http://sj21class.org/join.html
