Standing Rigging Questions

Post by jasonparallel1 » Sun Sep 27, 2020 5:35 pm

I'm fixing up a sj21 that has not been in the water for over a decade.

My first question is should the chainplates be straight? They are both bent aft but an asymmetrical amount? Time for a them to be replaced?

My other question involves the backstay. It appears to be an adjustable non-split setup with wire that needs to be replaced. While all the other standing rigging wire is 1X19 the backstay appears to be something else. Should it be 1X19 wire?

Thanks,
Jason

Chainplate, yeah probably time, they should be straight. Of the two stays pictured, the right one looks correct. My guess is previous owner replaced with wire that was not made for stays. Here is an opportunity to switch to an adjustable back stay!

Yeah it’s definitely not OEM. Both of my SJs had the 1x19 wires. Good luck!
