Three SJ21’s attended the event as the winds were perfect race conditions for the San Juan 21’s. All the races were very tight as all three jockeyed for positons on the course. One SJ21 would round the top mark only to find the boat behind make major gains on the downwind leg leading to some great head to head battles.
Bill Holstein and Patti Miller on Black Jack were the boat to catch. They played a great game of cat and mouse with Mike Loughlin and Andy Forrest on Irish Juan in the first race. Loughlin who make it to the first mark in the lead would lose the speed on the downwind to Holstein. The second race was the same scenario, as Irish Juan make it to the top mark first only to lose the battle to Black Jack in the downwind runs.
We did say there were three San Juan’s in the race, that Ole Yellow is back again piloted by Fisk Hayden and his newest Crew Member Brandi Metzek. In the third race, Old Yellow kicked butt to the top mark with a large lead but such as the rest of the fleet, they too wrestled with the downwind. This allow Irish Juan their first club race win of the season.
In the end, it would be the Black Jack show as they had two bullets in three races to beat the fleet.
