Fleet 29 2017 Travel Series

Due to low water levels on Lake Weir, Fleet 29 had to move their travel series from the Lake Weir Invitational and Harpoon National to Lake Monroe.
This would be the first time the Fleet would have their own event on Lake Monroe and thanks to the help of their home club, the Lake Monroe Sailing Association was more than willing to assist.
Unfortunately, lessons learned as summer is slowly creeping in on Central Florida is that the winds do not build to the afternoon. This made it very difficult for Race Committee to get a square course as the winds clocked 360 degrees around the lake. But they pressed on to try and get some races in.
The Race Committee got in two races and then it became a bake and bob situation as the sailors tried to sail around for almost 2 hours until the race was called.
Remember it is almost summer and lessons learned. As soon as the last boat got to the dock the winds picked up out of the east, which we all knew would happen and were steady into the evening.
Oh well, lesson learned. Do not start a race until after 3PM.
Congratulations to Randy and Luis Pawlowski as the show a commanding lead with their win yesterday in the travel series. Second place was awarded to El Gato skippered by Scott Marriott and Jim Geompel. Third place was Bill Holstein and Steve Hayden on Black Jack.
Due to the rules, El Gato was disqualified from the race as Scott Marriott helmed El Gato when Jim Geompel crewed. The helmsmen should be the same person from beginning of the series to the end.
Next for the Fleet’s travel series is the Sanford Fall Regatta!
Scores are attached.
