New owners

Post by La Belle » Tue Aug 30, 2011 5:55 pm

Hi, I am the new (half) owner of a San Juan 21 named (by previous owners) La Belle. The association info says there are members "from Calgary Alberta" in the north ... well we are 100 miles (150 kilometers) north of there -so time to update. Our backgrounds are primarily small dinghy sailors - my partner with Lasers, myself with a variety of 12 to 15 footers - most recently a 12.5 foot which I have not been able to identify, but which I solo on a local lake. We have two concerns (in our first week of ownership) - the swing keel is great, but is there a swing rudder available? and can people recommend a good source of new sails? Thanks, Rod

Hello Rod, nice to have you aboard!

Yes, swing keel's are available and if you find the right racer you might be able to swap for the solid one straight across. Or if you want to keep it, contact Gene Adams from Port Gardner Sailboats, info available from the main site's resources page.

Same with the Sails, generally speaking you'll see lots of Doyl's, some Kerr's, North Sails, and maybe some other brands. There are links to some of these outfits on the resources page as well.

Thanks
Christian

Thanks Christian. I will contact Port Gardner Sailboats. Meanwhile ... is there anyone up in my area? Is anyone in Calgary (or north) interested in a rudder swap? The lake I sail in is quite shallow in spots, so the kick up rudder is important to me.
