Wooden Rudder

Post by Problem Child » Tue Aug 08, 2017 7:36 pm

I've seen a lot of racers with a wooden rudder. Anyone know where I might find information on one? Weight? Price?

hmmm, Most of the ones in FLeet 1 are class rudders IME. I have seen some DIY rudders crafted from Cedar though that looked quite nice.

I built mine out of clear fir to class rules and painted it with epoxy/copper

Mine is made of oak and is a kick up kind. A couple of years ago, I was considering making a single blade rudder out of cedar and fiberglass. The idea was to cut down the weight since I store the rudder in the cabin when the boat is on it's mooring. However, I never seemed to find the time.
