Fleet 29 Sailors!

What a weekend of sailing at the Lightning and SJ21 Winter Series!

The Lake Monroe Sailing Association puts on a great regatta but we have not experienced eight races in almost perfect conditions. Tell you this, it doesn’t get any better than last weekend.

We had seven San Juan 21 teams compete in the regatta this year with two teams coming in from South Carolina. On Saturday, the winds were a steady southeast above 10kts with some nice gusts of over 14kts. Team Ole Yella showed everyone that ole dog can hunt as the team captured four out of the five races top spot allowing Team Irish Juan grab one bullet.

After five races the top three teams were Ole Yella was in the lead followed by Irish Juan and Temporary Insanity.

On Sunday the SJ21 division lost Tommy Smith as Team Problem Child had to retire early due to damage from the day before. This day proved to be a bit different than Saturday as the wind shifted to the south and shifting to the west. Some tired sailors, crew changes and Ole Yella having locked in first, Sunday became the challenge for second.

Teams took big splits to try to get up and down the course to have three different winners. Team Ole Yella in the race six, team El Gato in the seventh race and team Temporary Insanity in the eighth race. This swapped second and third as Team Temporary Insanity took second place away from team Irish Juan leaving them in third. Scores and pictures are below.

After the awards ceremony, Fleet 29 sailors had a meeting to discuss the remaining races in the travel series.

To quote one of our sailors on last weekend, "16 spinnaker sets, 32 legs, a lot of sailing, GOT MY MONIES WORTH!"

The fleet has decided to drop the George Washington Birthday Regatta and the St. Augustine Race Week due to lack of participation. Our next race for the travel series will be on March 30th and 31st at Mount Dora.

For local sailors, LMSA will host their Sine Metu Race on Sunday January 27th. Come out and have some fun.

Remember that all Fleet 29 sailors must update their San Juan 21 Class Association membership this month. Click here to renew membership http://sj21class.org/
